$2.6B LG Energy Solutions battery plant opens in Delta Township
- On Tuesday, Aug. 18, 2026, LG Energy Solution officially opened its $2.6 billion battery manufacturing facility in Lansing, Michigan, launching production at the 226-acre site.
- The project originated as a joint venture with General Motors, but the automaker sold its stake in late 2024 amid a broader pullback on electric vehicle investments.
- Currently employing 900 people, the plant produces lithium-iron phosphate cells for energy storage and nickel-manganese-cobalt cells for Toyota, with capacity expected to reach more than 35 GWh.
- LG Energy Solution CEO David Kim stated the facility will support both mobility and energy infrastructure while "reaffirming our long-term commitment to the United States."
- Next year, the facility will expand to prismatic cell production and add dedicated lines for Tesla's Megapack 3, diversifying LG's North American battery output.
