Celebrations of the 250th anniversary of the nation’s independence will kick off locally with “250 Years of Freedom: Liberty Day & Pole Raising” from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Saint Kateri Tekakwitha National Shrine and Historic Site.

The commission empaneled to prepare for America’s 250th anniversary discussed the possible activities that could take place to commemorate Jamestown’s role in the struggle for American independence.
