- Police spokesperson Nafiu Abubakar Kotarkoshi said on Monday gunmen abducted 25 schoolgirls from Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School in Maga, Danko-Wasagu, Kebbi State around 04:00 a.m. from their dormitories.
- Since 2014, kidnappers have targeted schools, with at least 1,500 students seized since Boko Haram's Chibok abduction, as armed groups use kidnappings to fund crimes and control villages.
- Vice-Principal Malam Hassan Yakubu Makuku was shot dead while resisting, as assailants used `sophisticated weapons` and exchanged fire with police, witnesses said.
- Police and military units have been deployed to comb suspected routes as a combined team of police tactical units, soldiers and local vigilantes conduct a coordinated search-and-rescue operation, while one escaped student returned home, school officials said.
- The Federal Government said it is recalibrating military, policing and intelligence capabilities and deepening cooperation with ECOWAS, the African Union and the Multinational Joint Task Force to strengthen border security.
