Ontario Provincial Police seized 72,000 cannabis plants worth over $79 million from four illegal production sites exploited by non-Indigenous organized crime networks.
- On September 23, the OPP Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau and the Tyendinaga Police Service dismantled four illicit cannabis sites and seized 72,000 plants on Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory.
- Police say non-Indigenous organized criminal networks ran large-scale production on Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory, with most profits not invested in or used by the community.
- Between October 1 and October 7, officers seized 46,700 cannabis plants, 4 lbs of dried cannabis and THC extract, 3.7 million contraband cigarettes and 35,600 kg of fine-cut tobacco.
- The raids produced 53 charges and left 24 people in custody, including 19 non-community members, police said.
- Investigators found illegal dumping into the Bay of Quinte, a depleted quarry, and impacts to the water table, police said, according to Acting Sergeant Chris Brinklow.
