2025 was the hottest and sunniest year on record, Met Office confirms
The UK recorded a mean temperature of 10.09C and 1,648.5 hours of sunshine, with nearly 10 million people affected by drought-related hosepipe bans, the Met Office said.
- 2025 was the UK's warmest year on record, with a mean average temperature of 10.09C, beating the previous record of 10.03C set in 2022.
- Four of the UK's top five warmest years have occurred in the current decade, with all of the top 10 taking place in the past two decades.
- 2025 was also the sunniest year on record for the UK, with an average of 1,648.5 hours of sunshine, surpassing the previous record of 1,587.1 hours set in 2003.
