- Following road losses to Mississippi and Vanderbilt and a 24-point home loss to Texas A&M, LSU Tigers dropped out while Vanderbilt's 7-1 start and three Top 25 wins boosted their ranking.

- Several programs dropped out of the poll, as South Florida, LSU, Illinois and Arizona State left the Top 25, while Vanderbilt reached its highest ranking in 88 years.
- The Big 12 last reached this level on Sept. 22, 2024, with five Top 25 teams, while Houston Cougars at 7-1 have their best start since 2021, and Texas quarterback Arch Manning's status is uncertain.
