2 Students at Magruder High School Taken Into Custody After Police Find Knife, BB Gun on Campus
A 15-year-old faces assault and weapon charges after police said two students were found with a knife and a BB gun.
On Thursday, September 3, 2026, Montgomery County police responded to two separate weapons incidents at Colonel Zadok Magruder High School in Derwood, Maryland, taking two students into custody.
Investigators found one student possessed a knife and a second student carried a BB gun; the 15-year-old with the BB gun was charged with assault and possession of a dangerous weapon on school property.
The student found with the knife was "very cooperative" and surrendered the weapon immediately, police said, with disciplinary action left to Montgomery County Public Schools.
Montgomery County Public Schools briefly enacted a "hold status" around 10 a.m. to clear hallways, while the district's VOLT-AI pilot program flagged "certain situations that may need attention" for staff review.
These events occurred during the second week of the 2026-2027 school year; Magruder High School previously experienced a 2022 shooting incident where a student received an 18-year sentence.
