Woman Accused of Shooting 2 Attorneys Outside Wake County Courthouse Following Case Hearing: Officials
Police said two people were shot multiple times and the alleged shooter is in custody as investigators examine the circumstances.
Two attorneys were shot outside the Wake County Courthouse in downtown Raleigh on Friday morning following a civil case hearing that turned unruly, police said.
Raleigh Police Chief Rico Boyce stated the suspect and victims were in a 10th-floor courtroom when the suspect "became belligerent," ending the hearing before the shooting occurred.
After leaving the courthouse, Gwendolyn White, 57, allegedly retrieved a handgun from her vehicle and shot the attorneys as they exited the building. Officers apprehended White shortly after.
The female victim underwent surgery while the male victim remained in stable condition, police said. Both the Wake County Courthouse and Justice Center closed at 1 p.m. following the incident.
Martin Street remains blocked to traffic as authorities investigate the scene. Chief Boyce warned the area will be locked down "for quite a while" during the ongoing inquiry.
