- On Thursday, two people died when their small aircraft crashed in a remote ravine on Catalina Island, according to local authorities.
- The Airplane Factory Sling, a two-seater propeller plane, departed from Zamperini Field in Torrance before going down around 12:30 p.m.
- First responders from the Los Angeles County Fire Department, Baywatch Avalon, and the Avalon Fire Department located the wreckage near Salta Verde Point in a rugged area.
- "Paramedics who were first to reach the site confirmed both individuals aboard the aircraft were deceased," officials said, prompting condolences from Los Angeles County Supervisor Janice Hahn.
- The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the crash, which occurred on land stewarded by the Catalina Island Conservancy near Divide Road.
