Two People Stabbed During Attack at Edmonton Sikh Temple; Suspect in Custody
Two adult men were treated on scene after an apparent attack during early morning prayers, and police arrested a suspect.
On Friday, August 21, 2026, two men were stabbed at the Nanaksar Sikh Temple in Edmonton at about 5 a.m. during early morning prayers. Northeast Branch Patrol officers arrested one male suspect upon arrival at the scene near 14 Street and Horsehill Road.
The incident follows several recent reports involving Alberta's Sikh community, including threatening calls to two Calgary gurdwaras and the reported assault of a Sikh truck driver at an Edmonton Walmart earlier this month.
Paramedics treated the two victims for non-life-threatening injuries at the scene, and police will provide an update at 2 PM on CityNews 24/7.
WSO President Danish Singh stated the organization is "deeply troubled" by the attack and is urging Edmonton police to investigate whether hate or bias played a role in the incident.
The Nanaksar Sikh Temple remains closed to the public during the investigation, while the organization is calling on governments to strengthen security measures at places of worship across Canada.
