There's a nonsensical incantation in Vance Randolph's 1947 book "Ozark Magic and Folklore." It goes, "Dullix, ix, ux, You caint fly over Pontio, Pontio is above Pilato!" Justin Minor, a cultural anthropologist who lives in Fort Smith, said he found the same incantation, almost word for word, in a book published in German in Pennsylvania in 1820.
