Mexico's prison population increased 19.2 percent at the end of 2025 compared to the closing of 2024, while the number of people deprived of liberty without a sentence rose 14 percent annually, revealing data from the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi).

Baja California topped the list of entities with the highest income, with 21,062 people, followed by the State of Mexico, with 18,589 and Sonora, with 15,617. In addition, 90.8% of the persons admitted were men and 9.2% women.
