In the first half of the year, some 332,000 asylum applications were submitted to the EU, Norway and Switzerland, and Germany again did not become a leader in the number of asylum applications, leaving France and Italy.

According to data from the European Union Asylum Agency (EUAA), international protection applications to EU countries fell by 17 percent in the first half of 2026 compared to the same period last year, dropping to 332,000 and recording their lowest level since 2021.
