Wings’ Dylan Larkin Out vs. Blackhawks; GM to Address Situation
On Thursday, Detroit Red Wings head coach Todd McLellan announced that former captain Dylan Larkin will not play against the Chicago Blackhawks tonight.
Larkin requested a trade four months ago, and the 12-year veteran's trade saga has intensified recently, refocusing attention on his future in Detroit.
Assistant general manager Kris Draper has been "scouting them relentlessly" at recent Montreal Canadiens games, while reports indicate the Red Wings seek two A-quality prospects and a first-round pick.
Although McLellan described an earlier absence as a "maintenance day," he offered no reason for tonight's decision, noting interim general manager Shawn Horcoff will address the situation later.
The 15th overall pick in 2014 remains under contract with an $8.7 million cap hit through 2031, leaving the organization to navigate his legacy after his Sept. 11 captaincy removal.
