14yo wins bi-lingual speech competition in Kaikohe

Some of the motu's top secondary school speakers have taken to the stage at the Nga Manu Korero national speech competition. Held over the weekend in Kaikohe, the bi-lingual speech competition celebrated its sixty-first edition. Competitors can choose to speak in Maori or English. 14-year-old Arihia Phillips won the Ta Turi Kara Sir Turi Carroll Junior English section in front of her hometown crowd.
