Two Charged, 127 Kg of Cocaine Seized at Ambassador Bridge: CBSA
A detector dog helped officers find the drugs in a commercial trailer, and the CBSA says southern Ontario seizures reached 1.67 tonnes this year.
On September 11, Canada Border Services Agency officers at the Ambassador Bridge in Windsor seized 127 kg of suspected cocaine from a commercial truck arriving from the United States.
Officers discovered the drugs after referring the commercial trailer to secondary inspection, where a detector dog located the narcotics inside the truck's trailer.
Vasyl Galychyn, 61, and Anton Chernyshov, 41, both of Mississauga, face charges of importing cocaine and possession for the purpose of trafficking under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.
CBSA officers transferred the suspects and drugs to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police on Monday, with the case currently before the Ontario Court of Justice in Windsor.
Michael Prosia, CBSA regional director general for southern Ontario, noted officers have seized 1.67 tonnes of cocaine in the region this year, stating, "Their experience, attention to detail and use of technology helped stop a significant amount of cocaine from entering the country.
