Migrants frequently traverse the Gulf from Djibouti toward Yemen, hoping to reach Gulf countries; this maritime corridor remains perilous due to regional instability and dangerous sea conditions.
Djiboutian authorities are continuing search and rescue operations for the remaining missing individuals, with humanitarian teams providing emergency aid near Obock.
More than 80 survivors are Ethiopian nationals; the Obock Migrant Response Centre is assisting 64 of them following the shipwreck.
The Missing Migrants Project reports this route remains dangerous, with more than 900 migrants dying or going missing along the path in 2025.
On the way from Djibouti to Yemen, a boat with about 305 people capsizes on board. At least 139 people are killed, including several children. The United Nations is talking about one of the most serious tragedies on the route for years.
A serious disaster occurred off the coast of Djibouti. More than a hundred people were killed. Just as many are still missing. They had hoped for a better life on the Arabian peninsula.
