£100 Energy Bill Payment Confirmed for Scottish Households After Budget
The payment would cover about 1.9 million Scottish homes if Holyrood passes on the funding, while ministers say the budget still leaves a real-terms cut.
On Wednesday, Chancellor John Healey delivered his first Budget, prompting Scottish Finance Secretary Jenny Gilruth to warn of a projected real-terms cut of around £650 million to Scotland's budget next year.
The Scottish Fiscal Commission expects resource funding to fall by 1.2% in real terms in 2027-28, creating mounting concerns over public service funding and essential infrastructure spending.
Gilruth confirmed the Scottish Government will pass on the £100 energy payment, though she described the measure as falling "far short" of required action given energy bills remain significantly higher than in July 2024.
The UK Government maintains the Budget provides a £600 million boost to Scottish coffers over three years, while Gilruth claimed Scotland is being "treated as an afterthought."
Gilruth is due to announce the Scottish Budget in December, as attention shifts to Holyrood to determine how the administration will manage financial pressures and potential spending reductions ahead.
