OSHP: 404 Arrested for Impaired Driving, 10 Fatal Crashes During Fourth of July Weekend
OHIO, JUL 7 – The Ohio State Highway Patrol made 404 impaired driving arrests and issued 2,286 safety belt citations during a holiday weekend that saw 10 fatal crashes.
- The Ohio State Highway Patrol announced that during the period from July 3 to July 6, 2025, ten individuals lost their lives in separate traffic collisions across Ohio.
- This July Fourth reporting period followed a zero tolerance policy for motorists stopped for other violations who were not wearing seat belts, which remain a secondary violation.
- During the reporting period, troopers attended to 482 traffic accidents, arrested 404 individuals for impaired driving, detained 73 on drug-related offenses, and handed out over two thousand citations related to seatbelt and child safety seat violations.
- Out of seven fatal crashes where seat belts were present, six victims were unrestrained, and among the eight deaths resulting from multi-vehicle collisions, six involved individuals who were not wearing seat belts.
- The patrol made over 30,000 traffic contacts and assisted 2,012 motorists, with the 10 deaths marking the lowest July Fourth weekend toll in three years.
