Comox Valley RCMP Seize 10 Knives and Imitation Handguns From Impaired Driver
Police seized 10 knives, two imitation handguns and about $2,000 after arresting two people on drug and impaired-driving charges.
- On April 30, The Comox Valley RCMP responded to reports of two individuals using drugs in a parked vehicle at the Aquatic Centre, arresting both suspects for possession of a controlled substance.
- A search of the vehicle yielded 10 knives, 11 cellular phones, and roughly $2,000 in cash, along with two imitation handguns, an expandable baton, and a digital scale with suspected drug residue.
- The driver faced charges for impaired operation of a motor vehicle while in and out of consciousness behind the wheel, with keys still in the ignition; a female associated with the vehicle displayed signs of drug impairment.
- Const. Monika Terragni noted that imitation handguns resemble real firearms closely enough to escalate high-risk situations rapidly, with decisions involving replica weapons made in seconds and carrying serious consequences for the public and responding officers.
- Terragni stated that public reports of suspicious behaviour help prevent harm by removing risks from the community; this intervention successfully removed weapons, imitation firearms, and an impaired driver from an area frequented by families and youth.
