Amazon Packages Spill Onto I-80/94 After Crash in Northwest Indiana
A moving semi struck a parked Amazon truck, ejecting a Chicago driver and blocking three lanes during an eight-hour cleanup, police said.
- On Tuesday morning, two semi-trucks collided on eastbound I-80/94 near Burr Street in Gary, Indiana, when driver Garbiel Corral's moving truck sideswiped a parked Amazon semi driven by Ahmed Taher Hussein Al Subari.
- The Amazon truck was parked between the ramp and interstate travel lanes, a positioning that caused Corral's moving semi to strike it; packages spilled across the roadway during the collision. Al Subari was not injured.
- Corral was ejected from his vehicle and transported to Northlake Hospital, where his condition remained uncertain. Indiana State Police closed three lanes for extensive cleanup, said NBC Chicago traffic reporter Kye Martin.
- Martin warned, "Major back-ups are expected for the Borman from south suburbs, Hammond and Highland." Officials advised commuters to "Consider Ridge Road as an alternate" while crews cleared the Borman Expressway.
- Eastbound lanes remained closed for 8 hours to allow investigation and cleanup before reopening. ISP noted no charges have been filed as the investigation continues.
