Six Flags Over Georgia's Goliath evacuated: 1 visitor dead, officials say
Officials said the park is cooperating as investigators examine how a rider fell from the 200-foot coaster.
On Monday at around 5 p.m., a visitor died after falling from the Goliath roller coaster at Six Flags Over Georgia in Austell, prompting emergency crews to evacuate remaining riders from the stalled 200-foot-tall hypercoaster.
The 200-foot-tall hypercoaster stopped mid-ride during operation, and a witness on Reddit alleged a seat restraint was unlatched, though officials have not confirmed the exact cause of the mechanical stoppage.
Goliath, a flagship attraction at Six Flags Over Georgia featuring a 540-degree spiral and speeds reaching 70 mph, opened in 2006 and is known for its 170-foot initial drop and forces up to 4 Gs.
Channel 2 Cobb County Bureau Chief Michele Newell confirmed the fatality, while Six Flags Over Georgia issued a statement expressing condolences and pledging full cooperation with local authorities' ongoing investigation.
Park officials have not announced when the Goliath coaster will resume operations; the facility was shut down for the day following the tragedy to support affected guests and team members.
