More than 20,800 people, including 3,500 children, have died or disappeared in the Central Mediterranean in the past 10 years, according to the United Nations.
In the first five months of this year, 1,865 people have lost their lives trying to arrive in Spain irregularly from various African origins. Of these, 342 were girls and boys, and 113 women.
