Grand Forks, North Dakota · Grand ForksGRAND FORKS — Helen Smiley, a former UND athletics administrator and women's sports pioneer, has died. Smiley, 87, died Friday in Davenport, Iowa. Smiley, who spent 14 years in Grand Forks, was inducted into the UND Athletics Hall of Fame in 1997 and served as UND's interim athletic director in 1984.
