This Electric Motorcycle Just Set A New Range Record With A 271-Mile Ride
Verstaen rode 436.5 km on a production Zero DS with a 19.2 kWh battery, surpassing the prior mark by more than 125 km, Guinness said.
Last month, Belgian Jelle Verstaen set a new Guinness World Record for the longest journey by an electric motorbike on a single charge, covering 271.2 miles from the French Alps to the Mediterranean.
Equipped with an optional Power Tank, the Zero DS increased its battery capacity from 15.6 kWh to 19.2 kWh, enabling the rider to surpass the previous 2025 record of 193 miles set by a Verge TS Pro.
Verstaen was accompanied by two other Zero motorcycles; the SR/S model traveled 217 miles and the DSR/X covered 238 miles while the team maintained an average speed of around 32 mph on single-lane roads.
Heavy rain during the final 62 miles turned the endurance run into a soggy battle toward the finish, yet the rider continued until the bike surpassed the previous record by more than 40%.
Traveling over 270 miles on less than 20 kWh of battery challenges the belief that electric motorcycles are inherently short-range machines, demonstrating efficiency potential for future long-distance electric travel.
With e-cars, the range anxiety is slowly diminishing. E-motorcycles still adhere to it. This world record of a Zero DS could make a change of mind. This article was sorted under Technology, Mobility.
