Zelenskyy Speaks With Witkoff and Kushner, Praises US Attempts to 'Reinvigorate Diplomacy'
Zelenskyy said the envoys signaled readiness to advance diplomacy in the coming weeks as talks on a ceasefire and possible Putin meeting continued.
On Monday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a "positive" conversation with U.S. envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, praising their readiness to work on a settlement to end the war in the coming weeks.
Zelenskyy's efforts follow consultations in London with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, French President Emmanuel Macron, and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, who supported a proposal for a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin to secure a ceasefire.
While the U.N. Security Council held its fifth special session on the war in 20 days, Indrika Ratwatte reported at least 30 civilians killed and 200 injured since Friday.
The U.S. envoys provided a "positive assessment of Ukraine's position," Zelenskyy stated, as they discussed prospects for the forthcoming G7 summit in Evian.
Diplomatic challenges persist, as Russian representative Vasily Nebenzya dismissed recent proposals as "rudeness and ultimatums," while Zelenskyy noted that European peace remains on the agenda despite global attention on Iran.
