Zcash Private Transactions Could Go From Three-Second Waits to Under 200 Milliseconds
The open-source libraries cut wallet transaction construction to under 200 milliseconds in some cases and speed node checks and syncing, developers said.
- Zcash developers released the open-source Zakura Common toolkit on Aug. 29, reducing the time required to construct private transactions from over three seconds to under 200 milliseconds.
- Private Zcash transactions require user devices to perform substantial cryptographic work to create zero-knowledge proofs before broadcasting, causing payment delays. Zakura Common optimizes these computational processes on the user's device.
- Benchmarks show transaction construction is more than 14 times faster on mobile devices and over five times faster on desktop computers. Sinsemilla hashing improved more than 21 times and zk-SNARK verification by four to eight times.
- Wallet and node developers can integrate these libraries immediately under dual MIT and Apache 2.0 licenses without requiring a hard fork. Vizor Wallet is among the first projects adopting the new stack.
- This release serves as a testing ground for Project Tachyon and the proposed NU7 upgrade, which aim to support more than 50,000 private transactions per second. ZEC traded near $839 following the announcement.
