Zambian NWSL players must wait to return from international duty
The league said the players are healthy and is working with clubs and U.S. immigration to secure their return.
On Friday, October 16, 2026, the NWSL confirmed three players cannot re-enter the United States following an international match in Uganda: Orlando Pride forward Barbra Banda, Chicago Stars forward Racheal Kundananji, and Angel City FC forward Prisca Chilufya.
The players competed in an Olympic qualifier in Uganda on October 8, triggering a mandatory 21-day re-entry waiting period imposed by the CDC for travelers from the East African region due to ongoing Ebola outbreak concerns.
Working with U.S. immigration, the NWSL stated Friday that "all players are in excellent health" and the league is coordinating their safe return despite the quarantine requirement.
Barring government exceptions, the players are eligible for re-entry on October 30, ruling them out of NWSL action until regular-season finales and creating a critical blow for Angel City's playoff push.
With the NWSL regular season concluding on November 1, the trio's absence affects final playoff standings during these final three weeks of play, potentially reshaping postseason qualification.
