Packers Linebacker Zaire Franklin Won't Play Sunday at Detroit because of a Shin Injury
Matt LaFleur said the shin injury is not expected to be long-term, and Ty'Ron Hooper and Isaiah McDuffie will take larger roles.
- On Friday, Green Bay Packers head coach Matt LaFleur announced defensive captain Zaire Franklin will miss Sunday's game against the Detroit Lions after sustaining a shin injury during Thursday's practice.
- Franklin, the team's second-leading tackler with 41 tackles, joins Edgerrin Cooper on the sidelines; Cooper is out for the season after tearing his Achilles three weeks ago.
- LaFleur expressed confidence in backups Isaiah McDuffie and Ty'Ron Hopper, saying "He's done a great job" regarding Hopper's development over 78 defensive snaps this season.
- The inexperienced linebacker duo must now contain Detroit Lions running back Jahmyr Gibbs, who ranks fifth in the NFL with 504 rushing yards and 243 receiving yards.
- On the offensive side, running back Josh Jacobs is on track to make his season debut Sunday after practicing this week for the first time since training camp.
