Bexar County Detention Deputy Fired After Photos Show Her Posing with Inmates, Flipping Off Camera
Karla Beltran was dismissed under probationary rules after online photos showed her posing with inmates and raising her middle finger, officials said.
- On Monday, the Bexar County Sheriff's Office fired 18-year-old Deputy Karla Beltran after social media images surfaced showing her posing with inmates inside the Bexar County Adult Detention Center.
- Beltran had been on the job for roughly 100 days when dismissed. County policy mandates a one-year probationary period for new detention deputies, during which the office assesses conduct and performance standards.
- Images circulating online depict Beltran making obscene gestures, including flashing her middle finger, while inmates on the opposite side of the glass partition struck similar poses. She also appeared making kissing expressions and peace signs.
- Officials confirmed the termination was a "probationary dismissal," preventing Beltran from appealing the decision. The sheriff's office stated no criminal charges are pending as of Wednesday afternoon.
- The sheriff's office is investigating how the images were captured and by whom. In November 2022, a separate Bexar County case involved a deputy arrested for allegedly allowing inmates to access a mobile phone for social media videos.
