According to the National Maritime Authority, the searches were initiated following an alert received at 08:45, through the Search and Rescue Center in Lisbon.
Victim would be with teammates, participating in a sub-16 football tournament in that locality.
The body of the young man, 22 years old and Brazilian nationality, was found after searches on the spot, coordinated by the captain of the port and local commander of the Maritime Police of Lisbon, in which "the elements of the Volunteer Firemen of Vila Franca de Xira detected and removed the victim from the water to the margin".
The searches took place in the area of the Azenhas do Guadiana, in the municipality of Mértola, after the teenager disappeared in the water
Authorities are searching for a young man, about 20 years old, who disappeared after entering the water in a riverside area of Vila Franca de Xira. The alert was given before 9:00 a.m. this Saturday.
