Yankees Activating Fried From IL Ahead of Schedule to Pitch Wednesday in Twinbill Against Pirates
Max Fried returns from the injured list after one rehab start, and the Yankees adjust their rotation for a split doubleheader.
On Wednesday, the New York Yankees reinstated Max Fried to start the nightcap against the Pittsburgh Pirates, with Gerrit Cole opening the doubleheader following Tuesday's rainout.
Fried has been on the injured list since May 16 with a bone bruise in his left pitching elbow, but made one rehab start for Triple-A Scranton and Wilkes-Barre last Friday.
Manager Aaron Boone accelerated the timeline after the Yankees' second doubleheader in four days, and Fried enters Wednesday's game with a 4-3 record and 3.21 ERA.
This marks the first time All-Stars Fried and Cole are healthy simultaneously as Yankees, allowing both pitchers to appear on the same day.
Fried posted a 19-5 record and 2.86 ERA in his first Bronx season and holds a 4-1 mark with 3.94 ERA in eight previous outings against the Pirates.
