Yankees activate 2B Jazz Chisholm Jr. following short IL stint with sprained right thumb
Chisholm returns after missing 12 games, giving New York its regular second baseman as Anthony Volpe shifts back to shortstop.
On Tuesday, the New York Yankees activated Jazz Chisholm Jr. from the 10-day injured list after a 12-game absence due to a sprained right thumb. He returned batting sixth and playing second base against the Tampa Bay Rays.
The injury occurred September 10 during a slide at second base in a 5-3 win over the Colorado Rockies. To clear a roster spot for Chisholm, the Yankees optioned infielder Max Schuemann to the FCL Yankees.
Before the layoff, Chisholm batted.391 with two homers and six RBIs in 15 games. Eligible for free agency after this season, he is hitting.232 with 19 homers and 55 RBIs in 134 games this year.
Manager Aaron Boone said "We'll see," about Anthony Volpe's future playing time after Volpe started 10 times at second base during the absence. Volpe was removed from the nightcap lineup.
Seeking to sweep the doubleheader against the Tampa Bay Rays, the Yankees face an opponent needing a win to clinch the AL East. The roster adjustment positions New York for the final stretch of the 2026 season.
