Yan Liu birdied the 18th and held off a crowded leaderboard in chilly, windy conditions.
On Thursday, Yan Liu of China shot a 6-under 66 in chilly and windy conditions to take the first-round lead at the Meijer LPGA Classic in Belmont, closing with a birdie on the par-5 18th at Blythefield Country Club.
American Jessica Porvasnik and Cassie Porter of Australia sit one stroke back, with Porvasnik noting the west-northwest winds 'suited my game well' during the opening round.
Jennifer Kupcho carded a 68 alongside Youmin Hwang, Minji Kang, Nastasia Nadaud, Benedetta Moresco, and Daniela Darquea; defending champion Carlota Ciganda opened with a 72.
Amateur Kiara Romero shot a 72 on a sponsor exemption, while second-ranked Jeeno Thitikul finished with a 74 during the opening round.
The 28-year-old Liu, winless on the LPGA Tour, said she is 'very happy' with her position and has 'nothing to lose' heading into the second round.
