Xreal Unveils Project Aura, New AI-Powered Android XR Glasses, at Google I/O

On May 21, 2025, during Google’s developer event, Xreal introduced Project Aura, an AI-driven Android XR optical see-through glasses system.
This launch follows Xreal's strategic partnership with Google and Qualcomm to expand the Android XR ecosystem with advanced spatial computing devices.
Project Aura features a lightweight, tethered design using Qualcomm Snapdragon XR chipsets, powered by Gemini AI, and supports Android XR apps for immersive experiences.
Xreal CEO Chi Xu said Project Aura will be “considerably cheaper” and “more advanced” than competitors, while Google’s Hugo Swart welcomed Xreal to the Android XR family.
The glasses will initially target developers to create XR apps, with consumer availability expected between late 2025 and early 2026, marking Google’s strengthened presence in mixed reality.
