Wrexham Handed Fine for Breaching Player Eligibility Rules
The club said it reached an agreed decision with the EFL after two eligibility breaches involving Issa Kabore and Callum O'Hare.
Wrexham has been fined £75,000 by the English Football League on Wednesday, with £25,000 of the penalty suspended, after reaching an agreed decision concerning two player eligibility breaches.
The breaches involved Issa Kaboré, whose documentation was not submitted for the August 28 match against Birmingham City, and Callum O'Hare, unregistered for the September 2 victory over Millwall.
Chief executive Michael Williamson noted registration failures occurred before sporting director Steve Nickson arrived September 7, amid an administrative restructure that left the club without a secretary for nearly a year.
Wrexham avoided a points deduction because Kaboré played in a defeat while O'Hare remained an unused substitute; EFL precedent suggests forfeiture could have occurred had he featured.
To prevent future incidents, the club is actively seeking to appoint a secretary. Manager Phil Parkinson's side travels to Sheffield United on Friday sitting 17th in the Championship.
