Arsenal to Appeal Max Dowman Red Card in Order to Avoid Huge Problem vs Liverpool
Arsenal are seeking to clear the 16-year-old before Sunday’s trip to Liverpool after his straight red card in the Carabao Cup loss.
On Wednesday, Arsenal launched an appeal against the red card shown to 16-year-old midfielder Max Dowman during Tuesday's Carabao Cup defeat to League Two side Fleetwood, which finished 1-1 before penalties.
Dowman received the straight red card in the 85th minute after reacting to a heavy challenge by Fleetwood's Harrison Neal, though replays suggest the dismissal was potentially harsh.
Manager Mikel Arteta was caught on camera scolding the youngster as he left the pitch, while Arsenal must submit documentation to the Football Association by 1:00 PM GMT on Thursday.
Arsenal hopes for a verdict before Sunday's Liverpool match, as the club currently lacks right-sided options Bukayo Saka and Noni Madueke, making Dowman's availability crucial.
Should the appeal fail, the midfielder faces a three-game suspension against Liverpool, Hull City, and Newcastle United; he remains eligible for next week's Champions League tie against Slavia Prague.
