$11.4M Shipment of Nvidia Cargo Stolen in California Heist
Investigators say cargo thieves targeted the shipment because Nvidia chips are in high demand and reported theft value more than doubled last quarter.
On August 29, 2026, a truck posing as a food transport company departed Oakland carrying $11.4 million in Nvidia hardware but vanished before reaching Fort Worth, Texas, authorities said.
Investigators lost track of the vehicle in San Bernardino County after the driver stopped communicating with dispatch. Police noted the truck made multiple stops, suggesting thieves were familiar with freight operations.
The theft follows a pattern of high-value cargo crimes in the Bay Area, including a series of burglaries valued at $22 million. Thieves often use fake registrations and spoofed GPS trackers to intercept shipments.
Oakland police received a report of the crime on September 13, 2026, but have announced no arrests. Stolen chips command about double the price abroad, creating significant incentives for criminal groups.
Security expert Groth warned stolen hardware could end up in countries with global conflicts, posing national security risks. "Security has to get a lot tighter around these because they're a national security asset," he said.
A shipment of Nvidia chips worth $11.4 million was stolen in California after he left Oakland for Texas. The commodity, made up of six pallets, disappeared in San Bernardino County, and the police confirmed that it was investigating the case. It is not the first theft of this kind targeting the American company.
