World Launches Self-Custodial World Money App
The self-custodial app adds stablecoin balances, transfers, trading and Earn programs, while Stripe now powers U.S. funding from Apple Pay.
- On Thursday, September 17, 2026, World launched World Money across more than 150 countries, combining stablecoin balances, cross-border payments, digital asset trading, and virtual accounts in a self-custody financial app.
- Stripe now enables users to add money via Apple Pay, converting deposits into stablecoins for World Money accounts. This funding flow leverages infrastructure from Bridge, which Stripe acquired to support personal virtual accounts.
- Morpho powers the new Earn section, allowing users to deposit eligible assets for yield. World warns these programs are not bank deposits and receive no FDIC or SIPC insurance, carrying risks like protocol default.
- World divided its platform into two apps: World ID-verified credentials now live in a separate identity app, while World Money retains wallet and financial functions. Existing users carry their verification status across both.
- "Money moves differently when accounts belong to people," World said, arguing that verified-human status strengthens transaction security. The project reported nearly 38 million users and more than 850 million processed transactions in its expansion.
