World Cup anticipation reaches the center of the Brazilian rainforest
Residents and shop owners turned Rua 3 into a street party with painted flags and overhead decorations for World Cup viewing.
Residents in downtown Manaus, Brazil, are transforming Rua 3 with decorations to celebrate the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup, filling the street with music as the community prepares for the tournament.
Oversized flags representing the 48 qualifying nations are painted on the pavement and hung in a paper-and-string canopy overhead, with local children assisting by climbing ladders and helping attach flags to one another.
Rua 3 organizer Ezequiel Pedro da Silva Filho and visual artist Aldri Tavares Castro lead the initiative, which residents describe as a way to unite the community for the national team.
Locals hope to watch matches beneath the display when the tournament kicks off June 11, with Brazil's first Group C game against Morocco scheduled for June 13.
Although seasonal rain delayed the project's completion, residents have now finalized the work, establishing Rua 3 as a central gathering point to cheer for the Brazilian national team throughout the tournament.
