Wonderfilm Pictures Deploys RED KOMODO-X Drone Array on Major Upcoming TV Series
The 9.2kg system gave the production more flight time per battery while keeping synchronized three-camera capture and live wireless review on set.
London-Based Wonderfilm Pictures successfully deployed its 3-Way RED KOMODO-X VFX Array on a major international TV series, flying the system on an Alta X heavy-lift drone in partnership with aerial specialists Skynamic.
Engineers designed the system to weigh 9.2kg to meet the production's strict payload ceiling. "Getting the array down to 9.2kg without cutting a single feature was the real engineering challenge," said Lewis Andrews, founder of Wonderfilm Pictures.
The array retains full wireless multi-camera and lens control via the Teradek Bolt 6 ecosystem, giving the Director of Photography significantly more available flight time per battery without compromising capability.
A Wonderfilm technician worked on-set with the production's visual effects supervisor on stitched deliverables, while the company provided full in-house plate-stitching services for the post-production pipeline.
Following the successful deployment, the production's Director of Photography expressed interest in using the array on future projects as Wonderfilm continues supplying aerial and ground-based VFX plate capture internationally.
