Women are nearly twice as likely as men to spend part of the day putting things away, federal data shows
Federal time-use data shows women are nearly twice as likely as men to spend part of their day putting household items away, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics American Time Use Survey.
Organizing and planning take longer than most people think, covering mental work like sorting papers and scheduling; about 1 in 7 Americans spend roughly 50 minutes daily on these tasks.
Stephanie Denson, founder of Spirit & Space, wrote that smart systems save time and reduce stress, while Ebony Deloatch, owner of Humble Enhancement, told HGTV that lacking a home for items is 'taxing on your mental capacity.'
Susie Marsh, a professional organizer, wrote that 'five to ten minutes can restore order and reduce stress,' while Jen Jeffress advises storing everyday items where they are used.
Household time rises steadily with age, from 43 minutes for those 15 to 19 years old to 2.7 hours for those 65 and older, as Closet World analyzed three years of survey data.
