Woman killed, 3 hurt when boat slams into pier near Logan Airport runway in East Boston
Four people were hospitalized after the crash, and state police said the cause remains under investigation.
On Wednesday night, Elizabeth Dankert, 24, died after a private boat crashed into a pier near Logan International Airport; all four occupants were transported to Massachusetts General Hospital.
Officials report that Dankert and two friends, both 23, were in the Seaport District on Wednesday before boarding a vessel owned by a 40-year-old man, which struck Runway 4R pier off Perimeter Road around 11:20 p.m.
Boston EMS responded to the "challenging" scene, battling darkness and slippery shoreline rocks; crews "carefully extricated" all four passengers from the rocks.
Dankert was pronounced dead Thursday morning at Massachusetts General Hospital, while the three other passengers are being treated for non-life-threatening injuries; Suffolk County District Attorney Kevin Hayden stated the tragedy is under investigation.
Massachusetts State Police assigned to the Suffolk County District Attorney's office continue investigating the crash, though officials have not yet determined the cause of the collision or potential charges.
The boat hit the pier in the harbor, throwing the four people on board onto the rocks - The other three are being treated out of danger at Massachusetts General Hospital.
