As NATO foreign ministers prepare to meet in Turkey on Wednesday, Latvia's Foreign Minister Baiba Braže says the alliance is due to discuss its members' defense spending targets.

NATO foreign ministers will discuss a new commitment to defense spending at an informal meeting in Antalya, Turkey, today, as part of preparations for the alliance's June summit in The Hague. The threshold is expected to exceed three percent of gross domestic product (GDP).

The NATO Military Committee and the European Union Military Committee met in Brussels. The defence leaders discuss uniform responses to security challenges. It is in parallel with the informal meeting of NATO Member States in Turkey, where there is an increase in military costs. The meeting will continue tomorrow, while direct negotiations between Ukraine and Russia may take place.

A two-day informal meeting of NATO foreign ministers in the North Atlantic Council format began Wednesday in Antalya, Turkey. The talks are chaired by NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte. Poland is represented by Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski.
