Wisconsin GOP Lawmakers Want Convicted Judge Impeached if She Doesn’t Resign
Republican leaders cite a felony obstruction conviction for interfering with ICE agents and warn impeachment will begin if Judge Dugan does not resign immediately.
- On Dec. 19, Vos and August warned they would begin impeachment if Judge Hannah Dugan does not resign, citing `the last time a Wisconsin judge was impeached was in 1853`.
- Federal prosecutors tried Hannah Dugan, Milwaukee County Circuit Judge, in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Wisconsin in Milwaukee after an April 18 incident involving Eduardo Flores-Ruiz.
- After months of filings and a four-day trial with more than 16 hours of testimony, jurors found Dugan guilty of one obstruction count and acquitted her on a misdemeanor concealment, with defense attorney Steven Biskupic saying `I would just say the case is a long way from over.`
- A simple Assembly majority can impeach, but removal needs a two-thirds Senate vote; Tyler August said `In early January would be when you would see articles of impeachment come out` and the Wisconsin Supreme Court keeps Dugan suspended with pay.
- Pro-Dugan demonstrators called the case political, with Art Heitzer criticizing `The Trump administration is trying to make an example of her...`, while Schimel stated `We weren't trying to make an example out of anyone`. Kash Patel posted `No one is above the law` on X.
