Barely the closed Milan-Cortina Olympics which Italy hoped to host again in the framework of the French Alps Games 2030. But the choice of French organizers to enter into exclusive negotiations with the Dutch for the hosting of the speed skating competitions has "glazed" Turin.
This is a first in the modern history of the Olympic Games. The executive office of the 2030 Alps, meeting on Monday 11 May, gave a mandate to the Organizing Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (Cojop) to "enter into exclusive negotiations" with the Thialf d'Heerenveen in the Netherlands for the speed skating events thus opening the way, [...]
Never did the Netherlands host the Olympic Winter Games. But this could change, by 2030, thanks to France. On 11 May, the organizing committee of the French Alps 2030 announced that it would enter into "exclusive discussions with the Thialf site" so that the speed skating events would take place in Heerenveen in four years' time. The Dutch option therefore took the ascendant on the Oval Lingotto in Turin, the other track envisaged by the COJOP. …
