Buffalo Sabres Make Change in Net: Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen to Start Game 4
Luukkonen returns after Alex Lyon allowed nine goals in his last two games as Buffalo tries to avoid a 3-1 series deficit.
The Buffalo Sabres are switching starting goaltenders to Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen for Game 4 against the Montreal Canadiens on Tuesday at Bell Centre, with puck drop scheduled for 7 p.m.
Sabres coach Lindy Ruff decided to reinsert Luukkonen to give Buffalo a jolt after Alex Lyon allowed nine goals on 63 shots over his last two outings, including five in the 6-1 Game 3 loss.
During the regular season, Luukkonen went 22-9-3 with a 2.52 GAA, earning the initial playoff start. "There's no need to change anything at this point in the year," he said of his approach.
The Canadiens enter Game 4 with a 2-1 series lead, holding momentum behind balanced scoring from Nick Suzuki and Lane Hutson, who each have nine playoff points.
Buffalo has overcome 2-1 series deficits to win six times in franchise history, and the team averages 3.75 goals per game on the road, trailing only Minnesota and Vegas among NHL teams.
