Twins Extend Qualifying Offer to Catcher Ryan Jeffers
Jeffers has until Nov. 17 to accept the one-year deal, which would make him the highest-paid catcher in baseball next season.
The Minnesota Twins extended a one-year, $23.15 million qualifying offer to catcher Ryan Jeffers before Monday's deadline, making him one of eight players to receive such an offer.
Jeffers is eligible as a free agent who spent the entire previous season with the team, providing the Twins a bridge to future prospects at the position while he considers his options.
Despite missing two months with a fractured hamate bone, Jeffers posted a 2.8 Wins Above Replacement per Baseball Reference, 14 home runs, 46 runs batted in, and a.814 OPS in 92 games.
Jeffers has until Nov. 17 to accept or decline the deal; if he declines, the Twins would receive draft pick compensation when he signs with another team in free agency.
If Jeffers declines, he will be the top catcher on the market and one of the top hitters available in free agency. "Ive worked really hard for this moment, for free agency, and that doesnt mean the chapter here has closed," he said.
