Jimmy Lai, founder of Hong Kong's Next Media, was recently sentenced to 20 years in prison by a Hong Kong court. On February 14, Vancouver residents held rallies and human chain flash mobs in front of the Chinese Consulate in Vancouver and at the Vancouver SkyTrain station to show their support for Lai, calling for his immediate release. They also demanded that the Chinese Communist Party stop suppressing press and freedom of speech.
