Red Sox and Yankees Postponed Due to Rain, to Play Doubleheader on Aug. 29
Weather delayed the rivalry game before officials postponed it and scheduled a split doubleheader on Aug. 29, with first pitch moved to 1 p.m. and 7 p.m.
Saturday night's matchup between the Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees at Yankee Stadium was postponed due to a "forecast of sustained inclement weather," with the contest rescheduled as part of a split-admission doubleheader on August 29.
Meteorologist Kevin Roth predicted the main storm line would remain roughly 45 minutes away from Yankee Stadium with an hour or more of rain behind it, prompting the Yankees to delay and eventually cancel the 7:35 p.m. ET start.
Boston won Friday's series opener 5-3 behind catcher Willson Contreras' two-run home run and Sonny Gray's six-plus innings, while the Yankees have managed just one victory in four games since captain Aaron Judge landed on the 10-day injured list with a rib stress fracture.
Left-Hander Ranger Suarez takes the mound Sunday against Cam Schlittler for the Yankees, while tickets from Saturday's rainout remain valid for the 1:05 p.m. game on August 29.
The rivals continue their season-long battle with a four-game set scheduled in Boston between June 25-28, a venue where the Red Sox have won 10 of their last 13 road contests.
